Next Generation of HD Gather at Northwood

Randall-Reilly and Northwood University Conduct Initial Next Generation Seminar

Midland, MI: From July 9 through July 11 the Randall-Reilly Education Project, an effort of the publishers of Truck Parts and Service and Northwood University held the first ever Next Generation Seminar for family businesses in the heavy duty truck parts business .

The Next Generation Seminar took place at the Sloan Aftermarket Building on the Northwood University campus in Midland, MI. The Sloan Aftermarket Building was officially dedicated this year at the beginning of May. This seminar also acted as a kick off to the utilization of this state-of-the-art building for Heavy Duty Truck Aftermarket events.

The Next Generation Seminar was developed in order to get the family of owners together for a couple of days to trade stories and learn about running family HD distribution or repair businesses.

“This has never been done before. We feel it provides a great chance to begin to rebuild the personal relationship infrastructure within the industry that has begun to crumble over the past few years,” said Tim Nash, Dean of DeVos Graduate School of Management at Northwood University.

Included in the lineup of speakers for the event were four Northwood professors; Professor and Chair of the Automotive Aftermarket Management Program, James R. John and three professors from the DeVos Graduate School of Management, Tim Nash, Ed. D., Dr. William T. Busby and Dr. Lisa Fairbairn.

Other notable individuals speaking at the event were the President and CEO of Randall-Reilly Publishing, Michael Reilly and Bill Wade and Craig Fry of Wade&Partners.

“Having just graduated from college, a lot of this information has been drilled into me over and over again, but Mike Reilly, in particular, presented it with more personal, life experience information that you can not get out of a textbook,” said Sarah Weller, daughter of Chris Weller from Weller Reman Center.

“Other presentations, such as Bill Wade’s The Flat Reality of HDD, presented some ideas that were completely new to me and shed some light on what has driven innovation in the past, and where the current markets may be going in the near future,” said Justin Pasdach, son of Pete Pasdach from Midway Truck Parts.

“The seminar was very good; its certainly the right group of people in the right setting. I’m really glad I got the chance to network with some of my peers in the industry,” said Ryan Palmer of Palmer Spring Co.
